CREDENTIALING & Mentorship

Graduates of our program have an opportunity to start their own psychedelic therapy practices, work as a professional in our psychedelic therapy center, and become trainers and mentors in our program. Through this process we have helped professionals across the United States and Canada start psychedelic private practices, and we are now collaborating with centers, clinics, and research programs to bring cannabis-assisted modalities to communities wherever we can.

To be credentialed in our program means we vouch for your skill, commitment to a code of ethics, and accept professional community oversight. This requires completion of the credentialing steps and a signed commitment to our Psychedelic Guild Agreement. We believe these are minimum commitments to practice as an ethical psychedelic guide or psychedelic therapist and to charge for your services.

Mentorship and consulting is part of our credentialing process and includes group training sessions (with no more than 10 students per class) and individual mentorship and coaching sessions. These sessions allow us to support our students in the beginning stages of their practice, both to support guides in what arises in their session work with their clients, and also to support them in building and maintaining their professional private practice.

Students are encouraged to seek mentorship in the program at any time, regardless of credentialing or not. Contact the program coordinator to get started at any time.

Credentialing Modules: Each level of credentialing requires one 3 month module. Each module includes 2 individual mentorship sessions and 12 weekly 2 hour group mentor sessions with no more than 10 students per group. Once a student’s group is selected, students are committed to their specific cohort.

Each three month module consists of 26 hours of consultation. Two NMHA specific cohorts in 6 months fulfills the requirements of the NMHA for psilocybin mushroom facilitator licensing.

The following Professional Psychedelic Credentials are available through Psychedelic Sitters School, in partnership with Medicinal Mindfulness Foundation:

  • Mindfulness-Based Integration CoachTM
  • Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic GuideTM (Equivalent NMHA Consulting Requirements)
  • Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic TherapistTM
  • Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic SpecialistTM

These titles are protected intellectual property of our program and can be used by credentialed and credentialing candidate students to denote their professional experience and differentiate their services from other psychedelic practitioners.

The NMHA regulations substantially shifted the requirements of credentialing to what they now call “consulting” for the NMHA psilocybin mushroom facilitator licensing requirements and we are currently rebuilding our credentialing program to match these requirements for simplicity.

Updated information on our credentialing program can be found in the 2025 Student Handbook with brief descriptions below.

Requirements for credentialing to ethically provide professional specialized services include:

  • Education through lectures, reading assignments, experiential training, and continuing education
  • Supervised Practicums (monitored and reviewed practice sessions after each training intensive)
  • A series of practice sessions with volunteer clients and peer trainees
  • A series of solo sessions for personal development
  • Group supervision and mentorship, participation in study groups or clubs
  • Accountability and oversight through current membership and a commitment to a shared code of ethic and review process (Medicinal Mindfulness Foundation and the Gateway Guild Association)
  • An assessment of competence at each stage of professional development

Additional Information on the Credentialing Levels

As a skill development program, we have created 4 credentialing levels based on the number and type of trainings our students complete, proven competencies, number of medicines proficient to guide with and increased commitments to professional ethics and mentorship. We have also created a color coded advancement system for simplicity in understanding and managing the program. This is loosely inspired by belt rankings in many martial arts training programs and we feel it is an apt metaphor for the trials we encounter as professional guides. These levels of credentialing cannot be reached through academic understanding alone, but require real world expertise in practice.

If a student intends to seek NMHA facilitator licensure, this is a separate designation, but can be professionally integrated into our credentialing. The requirements for licensure are congruent with the guide level and noted below.

Previous professional experience can count towards minimum practice requirements.

Accelerated Credentialing for Licensed Professional Counselors & Equivalent

Students who have a license that is equivalent to the Licensed Professional Counseling license can skip the Mindfulness-Based Integration Coach 3 month credentialing module. However, two accelerated credentialing modules in a 6 month period are still required for all students seeking NMHA licensing.

This credentialing level is for new graduates of Psychedelic Guide Training or NHMA licensing. Practitioners are still learning to guide, but have competence in providing harm reduction education and support for those participating in psychedelic experiences, including preparation, integration and safety. LPCs and equivalent do can skip the consulting series and go straight to guide credentialing, but are still required to the following commitments:

A lot comes up for guides in training and this is a great space to share and receive guidance and support.

After enrolling in the Credentialing Program, you will paired with one of our mentors. We try to honor any student requests for specific mentors when possible.

Certificates of Completion
Electronic certificates of completion are awarded to students who complete Psychedelic Guide Training (PSS1-2) and Psychedelic Therapy Training Specialties (PSS 3-C, PSS3-K, PSS3-P, PSS4 and PSS4-D).

Credentialing Certificates
Students who complete all credentialing requirements receive a printed certificate for display.
