Program Overview

The Medicinal Mindfulness Psychedelic Sitters School training program began in 2012 as a local Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration Support training program.  Since the legalization of cannabis in 2014, we’ve transitioned the first training to a retreat event with facilitated psychedelic experiences.  Hundreds of students from all over the world attend these retreats and enjoy the beautiful State of Colorado.

In some psychedelic communities, a “sitter” is someone who facilitates a psychedelic experience or helps hold space for another. In other psychedelic communities, it is the “sitter” who has the psychedelic experience. Therefore, the word, “sitter” in our program has a double meaning, in that we teach both mindfulness-based psychonautic practices for safe journeywork, as well as practices in holding space and guiding others

Exploring these themes have allowed us to evolve the program into two main tracks, a Psychedelic Therapy training program designed to prepare people to facilitate safe and transformative psychedelic experiences for others, as well as the Psychedelic Activism track that explores the use of psychedelic medicines for the betterment of ourselves, society and our shared ecology.

Our program is specifically designed to teach psychedelic practices that are congruent with both the ancient ceremonial depth and modern scientific orientation of the psychonaut’s psyche in 2020. We also acknowledge the global context of uncertainty and the Climate Crisis. For these reasons, we do not limit our trainings to just medical and clinical professionals. We believe many of us have heard the call, and that with the right training and experience, we all have the capacity to safely, ethically and skillfully “hold space” for others.

Inclusion and accessibility are important to us and our trainings are a Safe Space for all people.  We offer need-based scholarships for students and veterans, and diversity scholarships for people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, and for other underrepresented minority communities.

Teaching safety and appropriate boundaries are our highest priorities.

Psychedelic Therapy and Psychedelic Activism

The 3 Part Psychedelic Therapy Program provides 30 hours of pre-training online lectures and 14 full days of psychedelic therapy training. It includes over 90 hours of psychedelic experiences in a total of 26 psychedelic therapy individual and group sessions. Our credentialing process in “Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy” allows our students to immediately start practicing as a psychedelic professional anywhere cannabis is legal. The skill sets taught are traditional and clinical psychedelic therapy practices that are currently used in MDMA, psilocybin, DMT and other psychedelic medicine sessions.

Psychedelics aren’t just used in clinical and medical settings, but are used throughout the world to discover solutions to complex problems, both technological, and ecological, as well as to work within solo practices for personal growth and healing. The Psychedelic Activism track is interrelated to the therapy track to teach individuals of all professions how to stay safe, and keep others safe while exploring psychedelic experiences for personal growth, trauma resolution and societal and ecological problem solving.

PSS Orientation, Paradigms and SkillSets

Vision Statement

Heal and transform humanity and our shared ecology through the education, facilitation and integration of safe, legal psychedelic practices.

We teach from a multi-paradigm, transpersonal, holistic orientation that incorporates modern progressive values and service oriented action for personal and ecological healing and transformation.

We do not limit ourselves to just the clinical and medical models, but actively incorporate these models into a multi-paradigm approach that draws from the four primary paradigms of psychedelic medicine use: Clinical, Spiritual, Creative, and Discovery (Research). These interrelated paradigms are discussed in depth in our online lecture series in the training program.

We also add an additional dimension of “Skill Sets” to the classic paradigm of “Set & Setting” to promote therapeutic, mindfulness and journeywork skill development and the development of the psychedelic resilience required to safely be a guide and psychedelic therapist for others.

We further build upon the “S’s” of Set, Setting, and Skill by including “Substance Education” and “Support/Integration,” all of which are integral themes of the program.

While Psychedelic Sitters School is clinically and medically informed, we incorporate perspectives that are in alignment with traditional psychedelic healing modalities, something we call “Psychedelic Therapy.” This is an umbrella perspective that includes, but is not limited to “Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy, spiritual practices that incorporate psychedelics, or solely scientific research endeavors. We also actively incorporate artistic expression and music into our practices as both are essential in psychedelic community practices.

This program is designed to benefit new and experienced psychedelic facilitators.

Center for Medicinal Mindfulness

Daniel and Alison McQueen, co-founders

Established 2012 in Boulder, Colorado, Medicinal Mindfulness pioneered and became the first Cannabis-Assisted Psychotherapy, Psychedelic Therapy & Conscious Cannabis organization in the United States, and has since become an established leader in the emerging field of Psychedelic Harm Reduction, Psychedelic Psychotherapy, and safe & legal Psychedelic Experiences.

Medicinal Mindfulness is not just a psychedelic therapy clinic, we are an intentional psychedelic community that promotes safe and intentional psychedelic medicine use practices for personal and global healing and transformation.

Psychedelic therapy, I can honestly say is one of the most meaningful jobs I’ve ever had.  In this time, I have discovered one of the most important healing interventions we have available to us: Community.  We no longer have to practice in isolation.  We can come together to share who we are and our gifts, without the fears and traumas caused by prohibition.  This is what Psychedelic Sitters School really is all about.  I hope you can join us on this sacred expedition of healing and discovery.

Safe Travels,

Coming Out Psychedelic

Since my first true initiatory experience on New Years Eve between 1999 and 2000, I have been deeply inspired by psychedelic medicines.  After an 8-year journey as a psychedelic apprentice, I attended Naropa University and earned my masters degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology with the utmost intention of becoming an ethical underground psychedelic therapist. When cannabis became legal in Colorado, everything changed.  As I began to explore the significance of using cannabis as a psychedelic for therapeutic purposes, I realized quickly that I wanted to devote my life to not just psychedelics, but also to this humble plant medicine, Cannabis Sativa, as a tool for psychedelic healing.  I dropped all of my previous plans and became a full-time, professional, psychedelic therapist using this sacred plant ally.

Psychedelic Sitters School is the expression of my desire to share what we’ve discovered to help others who are as inspired as I am in becoming ethical, professional, and sustainable psychedelic therapists.

This training program is both a standalone credentialing program for those who wish to safely step into becoming a psychedelic therapist, and it is also an excellent experiential adjunct to other psychedelic therapy training programs currently being developed.  As other medicines become legal to use, we’ll simply add them to this program as additional trainings.  I think fundamentally, I’d like to say this, you don’t have to wait for MDMA and psilocybin to be legalized to become a psychedelic therapist.  You can become a psychedelic therapist now, fully in compliance with the law.  As other medicines become available for use, by training with us, you’ll have already developed the experience and skill necessary to successfully step into other treatment modalities safely and ethically.

Since cannabis became legal in 2014, I have used these skillsets to have the privilege of working openly and legally, full-time as a psychedelic therapist. I can honestly say that I have one of the most meaningful jobs I’ve ever had.
