Definition of Psychedelic Services

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text]The psychedelic field is quickly evolving so it is important to have a working definition of services in place to begin conversations.  When we started this program, Cannabis-Assisted Psychotherapy wasn’t really a named thing.  Here are some definitions that Medicinal Mindfulness uses to describe our work.

Psychedelic Psychotherapy and Psychedelic Psychotherapist

The skillful use of psychedelics in conjunction with psychotherapy by a licensed or registered psychotherapist, psychologist or other mental health professional.  Sessions might be psycholytic in nature and often have a clinical purpose, for example, for the treatment of trauma/PTSD, depression, anxiety, etc.  This is the most common term being used in the field, and specifically denotes a base credentialing within a clinical/medical framework and additional psychedelic training.  Sessions may include psychedelic harm reduction and psychedelic education.  Medicines typically used are MDMA, psilocybin, LSD and Cannabis.  Sessions can run from as short as 2hrs with cannabis to as long as 8 or more hours with other medicines.

Cannabis is one of the few psychedelics that is legal to use in the United States in Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy outside of a research setting.

Psychedelic Therapy and Psychedelic Therapist

Psychedelic Therapy is a specific multi-paradigm approach defined by the Medicinal Mindfulness training program and includes psychotherapeutic/clinical elements and assessments, but also mindfulness practices, ceremony & ritual, somatic approaches, spiritual orientations, and within an energetic/transpersonal paradigm.  Psychedelic Therapy can also be used for the treatment of clinical disorders, but is a full body/soul holistic practice that is not limited to the psychotherapy/clinical/medical model.  While not necessarily named “Psychedelic Therapy,” this modality conforms with how most skilled/experienced/ethical “underground” psychedelic practitioners work.  It is currently being developed into a credentialing program by Medicinal Mindfulness as an alternative to the clinical/medical credentialing paradigm.  Sessions may include music and periods of the client turning inward and the therapist “holding space.” Similar to MDMA & Psilocybin Psychedelic Therapy sessions, but may also include higher doses and stronger psychedelics (N,N-DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, Ayahuasca analogs, etc).  Appropriate for individuals, couples and small groups.

TransCannabis, Psychedelic Cannabis, Conscious Cannabis Experience

A synergistic fusion of a “full-spectrum” cannabis sativa blend with set, setting and skill (music, somatic awareness & breath), within a multi-paradigm facilitated process, that mimics a fusion of MDMA and Psilocybin and often reaches Ayahuasca/DMT level experiences, particularly when combined with breathwork practices.  The Psychedelic Cannabis experience does not require high doses, but is exponentially stronger than an experience that is typically associated with cannabis alone, but it is experienced with far more personal agency than other strong psychedelic medicines.  Cannabis is legal in most of the United States and is the safest psychedelic medicine available.  It can be regularly and safely used for ongoing Psychedelic Therapy and Psychedelic Exploration purposes.

Cannabis-Assisted Psychotherapy

The use of cannabis as a tool for psycholytic/psychedelic psychotherapy purposes has multiple advantages over traditionally used psychedelics, including legality, additional client agency over the experience and shorter durations, but can be as deep an experience as other classic psychedelics.  Typical duration is two to three hours.

Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy

The use of cannabis as a tool for full Psychedelic Therapy experiences as defined above.  Typical duration is 2.5 to 6 hours, depending on the number of psychedelic cannabis “cycles” facilitated during the session (1-3 imbibing opportunities depending on the length of the session).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
