Core Psychedelic Training Program Overview

Psychedelic Sitters School has been training psychedelic guides since 2012. Our program continues to evolve in flux with the unprecedented phenomena happening throughout the global landscape. We now offer in-person and online training options and have students across the world in: United States, Canada, Central and South America, Europe, and Australia.

To better serve the diverse backgrounds and needs of our students, we have organized the program to have two training tracks.

  • Community Guide: this track is for those who wish to engage the training primarily for personal development and to be a resource in their community. Those who are called to work with friends and family, be volunteers in private group experiences and/or volunteer in festival harm reduction settings.
  • MBPT Professional Guide: this track is for professional career advancement. For those who wish to be professional psychedelic guides credentialed in Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Therapy™ (MBPT) and Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy™ (CAPT) and make a living doing this work.

Within both of these tracks, we have two levels of training:

Psychedelic Guide Training (PSS 1 & 2) is for those who wish to guide individual and small group sessions in non-clinical, spiritual, or creative problem solving settings. This level is split into two primary intensives and practicum experiences (PSS 1 & 2). This course series provides all of the skillsets and logistics training needed to work skillfully and ethically as a Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Guide and can be completed in as little as four to six months.

Psychedelic Therapy Training (PSS 3) builds from Psychedelic Guide Training. It is for those who wish to practice in clinical settings to treat trauma and who wish to engage in advanced transformational practices, such as Cannabis-Assisted Breathwork. Completing this level allows for a credentialing in Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Therapy™ with a speciality in Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy™ and can be completed, with credentialing, in about a year.

Graduates of our program have an opportunity to start their own psychedelic therapy practices, work as a professional in our psychedelic therapy center, and become trainers and mentors in our program. Through this process we have helped professionals across the United States and Canada start psychedelic private practices, and we are now collaborating with centers, clinics, and research programs to bring cannabis-assisted modalities to communities wherever we can.

This is a wonderful time to begin your journey in becoming a psychedelic professional, and we would love to support you in that transformational process. The world needs this work now more than ever.

Heal and transform humanity and our shared ecology through the education, guiding and integration of safe, legal psychedelic practices.

What is a practicum and why is it important?

A Two-Day Training Retreat with Support Sessions

“Guide Twice, Journey Twice”

Once you complete an Intensive, you will attend a Practitioners Practicum in the following month or two. These are scheduled and guided by our small group leaders, who are trained and experienced in the MBPT modality. The overall program is a full weekend with preparation and integration meetings before and after the weekend to support our students. Under our supervision, you will guide two psychedelic cannabis experiences and be the journeyer for two psychedelic cannabis experiences, either online or in-person, with other members of your cohort. The PSS 1 practicum provides an opportunity to practice the guide protocol, music curation, and mindful presence. The PSS 2 practicum creates an opportunity to explore guiding practices, and the PSS 3 Practicum is an opportunity to guide Cannabis-Assisted Breathwork experiences.

Online and In-Person Training Retreats – Hybrid Model

Beginning in January 2022, students will now be able to attend any of our classes either in person or online via our Hybrid training model. The world is changing and we have radically transformed our training program to stay current and accessible. Since 2020, we successfully transitioned our program to an all-online model. Now we are able to offer Hybrid training.

What is the Hybrid Model?

Hybrid means that we host live virtual training via Zoom simultaneously with in-person cohorts. At this time you are able to choose whether you would like to attend a training intensive entirely online via Zoom or attend on-site at one of our in-person cohorts in Boulder, CO or Berkeley, CA.

Please note that in order to create a cohesive training experience for all, there are cameras in use for in-person training. These cameras are for live streaming purposes only, no part of the training is recorded.

Should I choose in-person or online?

Pros of in-person training:

  • Colorado has an accessible and potent psychedelic so you can begin your experiential training right now! Colorado was the first state to legalize cannabis in the USA and since has mastered the art of growing high THC cannabis. If psychedelics are not yet legal in your area, you can travel to the mile high state and try it out for yourself.
  • If one of your priorities is growing your psychedelic network and forming lifelong friendships, then spending four days in community with your cohort is a great opportunity.
  • In-person work is classic and essential to cultivating a practice. Dive into the details of what it means to create a sacred container and hold space for your clients.

Pros of online training:

  • If cannabis is accessible where you live then you can easily learn to make a psychedelic cannabis blend with the products already available to you.
  • Virtual training and psychedelic experiences maintain the depth of experience and without leaving the comfort of your own home. We have streamlined our virtual training to ensure that you feel safe and supported no matter what arises. All you need is the proper hardware and a stable internet connection.
  • Guiding online sessions for your friends and clients is a modality that may be sticking around for good. Learn all of the tech savvy skills that will help you become a confident virtual guide.
